One of India’s holiest Hindu pilgrimage locations is the ancient religious city of Haridwar. Haridwar is the location where the Ganges River emerges from the Himalayan foothills, and both Haridwar and Rishikesh are located on the banks of the sacred Ganges River. In Hindi, Haridwar means “door to god’s place.” It takes 30 to 40 minutes to travel the 20 kilometers to get to Rishikesh from Haridwar. Known as the “yoga capital of the world,” Rishikesh is home to numerous internationally recognized yoga schools. The renowned spiritual town of Rishikesh, often known as the “place of sages,” is located on the banks of the Ganga River and is encircled by the Shivalik range of the Himalayas on three sides. It is stated that after Raibhya Rishi, or priests, performed severe penances, God took the form of “Hrishikesh,” and this region was then called Rishikesh. This incredible Haridwar day trip begins bright and early at 5:30 am when you are picked up from your reserved Haridwar hotel or the Haridwar train station. Following a brief meeting and greeting, you will be driven by a courteous representative to the holy city of Haridwar. The most well-known ghat in Haridwar, known as the “bathing ghat,” is Har Ki Pauri Ghat. It serves as the primary location for holy baths during the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar, as well as the Ganga aarti. You could visit the Mansa Devi temple, which honors Goddess Mansa and is perched atop the Sivalik hills. If you have the time, visit the Shantikunj Gayatri Parivar and Bharat Mata Temple in Haridwar. See the cantilever iron suspension bridges, Ram and Laxman Jhulla, over the sacred Ganges River. These two beauties have just been outfitted with LED lights, which makes them even more beautiful at night. On your journey, other destinations include the 13-story Trimbakeshwar Temple in Rishikesh, the Parmarth Niketan Ashram across Ram Jhula, and the Sivananda Ashram in Rishikesh. Another well-known location in Rishikesh is the Beatles Ashram, where the famous Beatles lived while traveling through India on a spiritual pilgrimage. However, a day trip to this location is not feasible. Take part in the renowned evening Aarti at Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh during the evening. After making your way back to Haridwar, you will be dropped off at your hotel or the Haridwar railway station, filled with many special memories.
